you can’t spell cooking without cook

25 09 2008

i love to cook.

ever since i cooked my first teriyaki chicken, i’m intrigued. The smell of olive oil simmering and the sound of the beef sizzling on the pan it’s just mind blowing.

Now i’m going to share my cooking recipe.

i call this recipe the “no bullshit steak

For this recipe you need:

1. A Good cut of meat ( i prefer Sirloin or Rib Eye, as they have a good portion of Fat, so the beef dwon’t dry out when cooking)

2. Coarse sea salt (don’t use table salt, the fine texture is not good for the cooking)

3. Whole ground peppercorns (it is best to use the ones that are still in the form of seeds. Crush them before using. Experiments with different colors of peppercorns for that flavor)

4. Extra virgin olive oil (yep, this oil works best. Don’t go for the other)

5. Grill Pan (yes, or else, what are we going to cook this with?)

The Prep

(Make sure the meat are in the room temperature!. If you cook the meat while it is still cold, they won’t cook evenly and the meat will be hard to chew)

1. Coat the meat with a generous amount of Sea Salt and Ground Peppercorns on both sides, tap it

2. Leave it to marinate for 5-10 minutes

3. Pre-heat the Grill Pan to Medium-High heat for about 5-7 minutes. Make sure the pan is EXTREMELY HOT

4. Before placing the meat on the pan, coat it lightly on both sides with olive oil.

5. Place the meat on the pan, and cook it for 4 minutes on each side (but the cooking time depends on the size of the meat and your own preferences, i like mine medium-well)

6. Your done!

Serve with a vegetable stir fry and french fries, and have a good one!

Circa Survive / Ex-Saosin

This man is the bomb. He hit a note so high that glass started to crack. I love his work with Circa Survive, but i personally prefer his work when he is in Saosin. His approach in writing the lyrics is so different, yet so awesome. Like when he was in Saosin, he writes a number of story that would become the lyrics in the Translating The Name EP. A genius man he is.

Personal Favorite: “Seven Years” by Saosin / Translating The Name EP

The Used

This is one of the best Screamer in the Emo/Screamo/Post Hardcore/Whatever scene. His singing technique is not that extraordinary, but his scream is definitely is. I love it when he owns the stage while singing. Expect a puke in a gig

Lostprophets

He is one of the best frontman around today. I witnessed him on Jakarta Jam! ’08 Festival. And he definitely lived up to his reputation. His singing is 11-12 with the record. He doesn’t need to tell the folks to downtune their guitar to make sure he’d be able to hit the notes he suppose to. Other than that, he is also a fun entertainer on stage. Whole lot of laugh is definitely on the line.

Each of this vocalist are creative. They have a unique way of songwriting, singing, and owning the stage. For examples:

– Till Lindemann of Rammstein. his lyrics are mostly controversial issue in the society. He also uses extraordinary way to own the stage. He wears jacket and lit it on fire, he fires a bow that is lit on fire, he attaches fireworks to his shoes and rolls around the stage, and more.

– Wil Fraincis of Aiden. his lyrics are mostly based on his personal experience with dark life. He often swing his mic in a cowboy fashion. And moreover, if he get’s booed by the crowd, he doesn’t back out. Instead, he gave the crowd a speech, mostly saying,”this is 30 minutes of your life that you never gonna get back!”. So the crowds who was throwing things and booing him stop all their actions, and started to enjoy the music. How creative that is? fighting fire with fire

Moreover, it is clear that, being creative in music is easy. Just try to do something that is out of the ordinary and different from anybody else. Get noticed and get there quick, making sure you are the one that came up with the idea first!

cheers!
